Doumbek drum - how it opened my eyes
When I first got into a hand percussion class last summer, I was introduced to a funny looking little goblet drum called the doumbek. I had never seen such a drum before and was pleased to find out it is used generally in middle eastern cultural dances, such as belly dancing. I’ve greatly enjoyed this class, and the things about the world it has taught me. Who knew that learning about different instruments used in different parts of the world could open your eyes and help you understand other people in other cultures on a deeper level? I found it deeply rewarding and very fun!
