The Lightbulb
When I was a teenager, I spent some time at a treatment center for alcohol addiction. It wasn’t the best time of my life, but it did change my life. In my mind, one day stands out vividly from all my other memories of that place. We were doing team building activities, and I had to let another girl lead me through a maze, while I was blindfolded. I remember being terrified, and thinking that she was going to lead me into a wall or something. But she led me straight through, and I didn’t get hurt. At the other end, I distinctly remember thinking to myself “I don’t trust people. That’s why I was scared.” That light bulb going off was the turning point for me.
